PGM is currently supported on two PDA platforms:
- Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hx2750 series: Visit HP | GetUser Guide
- Hewlett-Packard iPAQ hx4700 series: Visit HP | GetUser Guide
More information
about PGM, including screenshots, xml schema resources, and an alpha
software release, will be available soon.
Overview:
The CSRC, in coordination with NGS, is currently developing a set of
software named the "Pocket GPS Manager" (PGM) to support GPS campaign
information exchange. PGM is designed to provide a well-defined, flexible,
and platform-independent system to improve information exchange in
GPS-related fields. Early development platforms include handheld PDAs and
Windows XP operating systems.
With height modernization and geodetic densification projects underway in
California, a primary goal for PGM is the replacement of hand-written field
logs used in GPS campaign surveys with modern information technologies.
Specifically, information will be transferred from users in the field or
office to central repositories using web services, xml, and network
transport mechanisms (e.g., http, smtp, ftp). More technical information is
provided below.
Technical information:
PGM is a client-server architecture where such communication uses xml-based
message exchange: xml-encoded information conforming to a set of published
XML schemas. Currently, clients are Java-based applications for both
desktop (J2SE) and PDAs (J2ME). The server architecture will be designed in
a way that supports a many-to-many relationship, where a PGM client
application can access multiple sources or repositories (e.g., CSRC, NGS,
etc).
